Sian Parany "Crust" 16th September - 12th October 2013

We felt that Sian Parany's show Crust was the perfect way to welcome in spring. 

Sian's pastel coloured plaster sculptures are designed to fade over time and with that comes a quiet and delicate movement and an evolving artwork. Sian has devised her own methods of producing her work through experimentation but there is an element of chance that makes viewing her art quite a visceral and immensely enjoyable experience. It was a joy to host this exhibition in our space and we look forward to seeing what Miss Parany does next!

            

Artist Statement

Time rings in wood and sandstone, amber and fossilised bones. Time plays out, is recorded and reinterpreted in numerous ways; the relationship between our environment and time is intrinsic, evident in everything. Crust seeks to capture and recontextualise time, active yet frozen; objects of  liquid time, played out in colour and form, solidified for now.

Biography

Sian Parany is a Melbourne based artist who completed her bachelor of fine art at RMIT . She is a multi disciplinary artist who enjoys the exploration of colour and form and in particular the relationship between painting and sculpture.

si-d "The Grotto" 27th May - 22nd June

The eye sees all, all hail the eye. 

The end of May saw the opening of the wonderful si-d's show. His earthy tones and warm finishes are truly something from an original perspective. As crude as it is to relate art to drug use, one get's the feeling that this work would not be out of place in some Peyote induced spirit-quest in some wild North-American landscape. Thank's si-d!!!

Ro Noonan "Pretty, Ordinary Constructions" 4th February - 3rd March

The night of the 4th saw the extremely well attended opening of Ro Noonan's wonderful new show. Truly original and beautiful works using timber, acrylic and various plastics were installed to great effect in our boxes. The subtlety and modesty in Ro's work comforts the viewer. In using familiar materials in unconventional ways there is a melding of history and the inevitable future all at once.

Pretty, Ordinary Constructions

Embracing my contently average carpentry ability, instability is probably inevitable but the materials influence the structures they become. These pretty, ordinary constructions negotiate the strength in wood, the instability of plastic and nurture of colour, in the process of finding balance or imbalance.

Biography

I grew up kind of a country boy, big family, bush, but no cows. Cherished it but wasn’t great at that. I'm now currently living, working and studying in Melbourne.
